GILLESPIE COUNTY COUNTRY SCHOOLS

A Driving Trail links 16 historic schools throughout the Gillespie County countryside. See early school BBQ pits, outdoor pavilions, stages and stage curtains, tin schools, and two Presidential Schools.

Schools are listed on National Register of Historic Places and are members of Country School Association of America. No two are alike.

The Gillespie County Country Schools Trail is open all year.

Pick up a map at the Fredericksburg Visitor's Center or visit the White Oak School located at the Pioneer Museum (325 West Main Street) which is open daily.  The Country Schools Trail map is also available on our website:  https://www.historicschools.org/assets/documents/driving-trail-brochure.pdf

The full trail is a 120-mile tour, and visitors can see one, several, or all schools. Spend an hour or the day. Schools are. Today they function as community and learning centers, rentals for reunions, other social gatherings, and unique destination weddings.
